About this parasha
The Torah lists all forty-two stops on the Israelites’ journey through the wilderness, sets the borders of the Land of Israel, and sets aside cities of refuge where someone who caused a death by accident could be safe.
The picture: The journeys
The route of the Israelites’ journeys, with every stop along the way (Numbers 33:1–49).
Why this picture?
Masei opens with the list of all forty-two stops between Egypt and the Jordan, and the dotted route to a tent shows the whole forty-year journey that closes the book of Numbers.
