About this parasha
God tells the people, “You shall be holy,” and shows how: love your neighbor as yourself, leave the corners of your field for the poor, do not spread gossip, honor the elderly and be honest in business.
The picture: The corner of the field
A field cut short except for one corner, left standing for the poor (Leviticus 19:9–10).
Why this picture?
Kedoshim shows that holiness lives in everyday life, and the corner of the field left for the poor makes that a picture of a shared harvest, the way Ruth later gathers grain in Boaz’s field.
