About this parasha
Locusts and darkness strike Egypt, God gives the mitzvah of the new month, and after the tenth plague the Israelites eat the first Passover meal and leave Egypt in a hurry.
The picture: The marked doorway
The Israelites mark their doorposts on the night of the first Passover (Exodus 12:7, 12:13).
Why this picture?
Bo is the parasha of the first Passover, and the marked doorposts are its central sign: the Israelites mark their homes, God passes over them, and that night they leave Egypt, the moment retold every year at the Seder.
