About this parasha
The Israelites cross the sea on dry land and sing the Song of the Sea, Miriam leads the women with timbrels, and in the desert God feeds the people with manna and brings water from a rock.
The picture: The split sea
The sea splits so the Israelites can walk through on dry land (Exodus 14:21–29).
Why this picture?
The crossing of the sea is the high point of the Exodus, and this Shabbat is called Shabbat Shirah after the song the Israelites sing on the far shore; two walls of water with a dry path show the miracle at a glance.
