About this parasha
Aaron lights the menorah, the Israelites leave Sinai following the cloud and the call of silver trumpets, the people complain about the manna and receive quail, and Moses prays for his sister Miriam to be healed.
The picture: The quail
The quail God sends when the people complain about the manna (Numbers 11:31–32).
Why this picture?
The quail tell the parasha’s main story of the people complaining in the desert and wanting meat instead of manna, and the round little bird makes that story friendly and easy to remember.
