About this parasha
God calls to Moses from the Mishkan and teaches the different offerings, from animals and birds to a simple offering of flour and oil, so that even a poor person can bring a gift to God.
The picture: The flour offering
Fine flour with oil poured on it, an offering even a poor person could bring (Leviticus 2:1–2).
Why this picture?
Vayikra teaches the offerings, and the simplest is fine flour with oil, so even the poorest person can bring a gift to God; Rashi teaches that God counts it as if the giver had offered their very soul.
