About this parasha

God teaches the priests how to bring each offering and to keep the fire on the altar burning always, and Moses dresses and anoints Aaron and his sons for seven days to begin their service.

The picture: The fire that never goes out

The fire on the altar is kept burning day and night and never goes out (Leviticus 6:5–6).

Why this picture?

Tzav commands that the fire on the altar must never go out, and every morning the priests add wood to keep it burning, a picture of faith kept alight day and night.
