About this parasha
At 120 years old, Moses tells Joshua and the people to be strong and brave, writes down the Torah, and commands that it be read to the whole people every seven years.
The picture: A quill writing the Torah
Moses writes the Torah, and every Jew is commanded to write one (Deuteronomy 31:9, 31:19).
Why this picture?
In Vayeilech, Moses writes down the Torah and gives it to the people, and the last of the 613 mitzvot is for every Jew to write a Torah scroll, so the quill links Moses’ work to each of us.
