About this parasha

God commands pure olive oil for a lamp that always burns and describes the special clothes of Aaron and his sons, including the breastplate with twelve stones for the twelve tribes.

The picture: The breastplate

The High Priest’s breastplate with twelve stones, one for each tribe (Exodus 28:15–21).

Why this picture?

Tetzaveh is about the priests’ clothes, and the breastplate is the most striking of them: its twelve stones carry the names of the twelve tribes, so the High Priest brings all of Israel with him when he serves.
