About this parasha
Every seventh year the land rests, in the fiftieth year, the Jubilee, the shofar proclaims freedom throughout the land, and the Torah commands helping a neighbor who becomes poor.

In the seventh year the plow rests and the field grows on its own (Leviticus 25:2–7).
Why this picture?
Behar teaches that every seventh year the land rests, a Shabbat for the earth, and the sign with its 7 and the plow set aside show that rest at a glance; the mitzvah is still kept in Israel today as shemitah.
