About this parasha
Jacob dreams of a ladder reaching to heaven with angels going up and down it, works twenty years for Laban, marries Leah and Rachel, and his family grows to eleven sons and a daughter.
The picture: Jacob’s ladder
The ladder reaching up to heaven; the sparkles are the angels going up and down (Genesis 28:12).
Why this picture?
Jacob’s dream of the ladder, with angels going up and down, opens the parasha and is its best-known moment, when God promises to protect Jacob on his journey away from home.
